Payment

Each entrant is eligible for a payment of up to $300, with a minimum of $50 if the entry meets the minimum standards. The exact payment amount for each entrant will be based on the quality of the entrant’s work.

Description

The goal of this tutorial is to teach creators on how to design great looking skyboxes for their games. A skybox is basically the sky within a game including elements such as sky colors, lighting, clouds, sun, and stars. Additional components such as environmental and post processing effects can also be added.

Concepts
How do you come up with ideas and concepts for a skybox?

Planning
Do you use reference images or concept art as a guide?

Process
Describe your process when building a skybox.

Design
What makes a good skybox or a bad skybox? A great skybox can make all the difference in a game, while a bad skybox can look and feel totally wrong.

Sky Components
Explain how to use the various sky components.

Adjustment Volumes
Describe how to use the adjustment volumes to effect the sky and atmosphere.

Post Processing
Detail how to use those post processing effects which affect the sky.

Requirements

  • Publish a tutorial on this topic to the Core forums as per the instructions in your application acceptance message.

  • Provide any tutorial assets (models, scripts, UI, etc) in Community Content or an editable public game, and include a link within the tutorial.

Judging Criteria

  • Your work will be judged based on the Judging Criteria.

  • Your application acceptance message includes instructions on how to publish your tutorial.
  • Entrants must publish their tutorial by the deadline listed in the challenge in order to be considered for payment.
  • Failure to publish your tutorial on time may affect your eligibility for future challenges.
