Due Date: December 15, 2021 (by end of day, Pacific Time)

Payment

Each entrant is eligible for a payment of up to $350, with a minimum of $50 if the entry meets the minimum standards. The exact payment amount for each entrant will be based on the quality of the entrant’s work.

Description

The goal of this tutorial is to explain how to create terrain in Core. This includes generating terrain, as well as sculpting, painting, and adding foliage. The tutorial should be easy to understand and approachable for all skill levels.

Some of the topics to consider for your tutorial are listed below.

Generate New Terrain
Describe how to generate new terrain. Cover the various properties.

Import From Heightmap
Explain how to import terrain from a heightmap. Mention important requirements such as image size, grayscale, etc.

Primary
Note that only the primary terrain has collision. Any additional terrain that is added will not have collision. Explain this, and how to set which terrain is the primary terrain.

Terrain Properties
Describe the general terrain properties.

Sculpt
Explain how to sculpt terrain using the sculpting tools. Cover the various properties.

Paint
Show how to paint terrain. Cover adding and editing the materials. Describe the various properties.

Foliage
Explain how to add foliage to terrain, and how to add, edit, and delete the foliage. Describe the various properties.

Object Generator
Describe how to use the Object Generator to quickly add objects to the terrain.

Water
Explain how to create water such as rivers and lakes. Describe how to add underwater effects, sounds, and swimming.

Optimize
Describe optimization techniques, and some of the factors that affect performance.

Requirements

  • Publish a written and/or video tutorial on this topic to the Core forums as per the instructions in your application acceptance message.

  • Provide tutorial assets (terrain, etc) in an editable public game, and include a link within the tutorial. This allows creators to open the final project in Core.

  • Video tutorials must have voice overs in English.

Judging Criteria

  • Your work will be judged based on the Judging Criteria.

Submitting Your Tutorial

  • Your application acceptance message includes instructions on how to publish your tutorial.
  • Entrants must publish their tutorial by the deadline listed in the challenge in order to be considered for payment.
  • Failure to publish your tutorial on time may affect your eligibility for future challenges.
