Patch Notes Header

Welcome to our February 1st patch notes!

In this cycle we have a good mix of new API features, a ton of art and the usual quality of life and bug fixes. We also fixed two regressions that sneaked in with the last patch, which a lot of you reported, thanks again and keep it coming!

Platform

  • New: Local Context - Objects in this context behave similarly to objects in a static context, except that they can be modified via script.
    • Local Contexts are a new context type for advanced creators. Technically, they function similarly to the Static Context, except that objects within them can be modified freely. However, any changes made to objects in a Local Context are made independently by the server and each client, and are not networked automatically. Creators must take care to ensure that client and server state match, or players may experience buggy behaviors including jittery movement, unexpected teleportation, etc.
    • Local Context can be used when creating gameplay objects which have a stationary server component (like a trigger), but an animated client component (like a rotating visual component of a bouncepad or checkpoint). The context can also be used by advanced users who want to create synchronized functionality without using networked objects, instead synchronizing via some other mechanism, like having Local Context scripts perform changes based on a dynamic custom property on a networked object.
    • Our hope with Local Context is to enable advanced creators to squeeze even more performance and functionality out of the finite Networked Object limit, especially in games with higher player counts.

  • New: Audio objects and Smart Audio objects now have "StartDelayMin" and "StartDelayMax" properties, which can be used to insert a random number of seconds before a sound starts playing.
  • New: Added Memory tracking counters to the Core Profiler, including Texture Streaming, Meshes, Audio, Physics.
  • New: Updated the color picker design on the character UI to use separate sliders for color's saturation and value.
  • New: Added Music Shuffler utility:
    • The Music Shuffler Utility is a new piece of Core Content which makes it easy to add shuffling background music to your game, like a radio in a supermarket. Simply add other music objects to its music list and they will be added to the rotation. You can configure how long each song plays before fading into the next track.
  • New: Objects within a local or static context now show text in the hierarchy to clarify their status, similar to existing text for client, server, or networked objects.
  • New: Added context menu options to set a selected template root's parent as the new template root, or to set a selected subobject as the new template root.
  • New: Added syntax highlighting for generated Lua code for custom parameters in the Properties UI.
  • New: Updated the UI and layout of the Script Generator:
    • It can now show syntax highlighting in text preview.
    • There is a new "Include Comments" checkbox to include/exclude comments in generated code.
    • There are a few new sections for various events.
  • New: There is now a new chat dialog that will appear in the frontend of in-game escape menu that has multiple chat tabs.
  • Changed: Deinstanced template objects will now automatically abandon their template history when re-parented to an object not from the same template instance.
    • Copy/pasted or duplicated template subobjects will also now be created without template history.
    • Existing objects created by these operations will abandon their template history in a one-time migration.
  • Fixed: "Skylight" will no longer capture items too close to the transform position.
  • Fixed: Issues where equipment is not placed in the correct socket.
  • Fixed: Improved performance when deleting large numbers of objects.

  • New: Added damageHook to the Damageable interface which is inherited by Vehicles and Players as well:

Miscellaneous

  • Fixed: Removed the left-to-right constant panning effect from one of the instruments in the track: "LoFi Moody" Sections Kit 01" - Additionally the main track in the HipHop Music Score Set 01 was updated with this fix.
  • Fixed: "Sci-fi trim" meshes in the BasicShapes/Trims folder have been slightly reworked to be more consistent with current mesh standards. You may notice a slight difference if you are using these meshes and have adjusted their U or V settings, otherwise they should be unchanged. In addition, 4 more pieces have been added to this set.
  • Fixed: Two Craftsman roof pieces that had a broken "Ceiling" material slot.
  • Fixed: Sign Font 4: Katakana Neon Outline: Added missing dakuten characters.
